Archeology at Oxmoor

Oxmoor – Artifact Cleaning Night – Every Monday in June (4:00-6:30pm) and July 20 (4-6:30pm)

Come and learn what happens after archaeologists excavate! Did you know that archaeologists don’t spend all that much time excavating? Only about 25% of our time is spent excavating. Much more time is spent washing artifacts and cataloging them to learn what they can tell us about the past. And a great deal of time is spent writing about what we have learned!

Join KAS archaeologists at Oxmoor to wash and learn about the artifacts we have been excavating at the extant slave dwellings on the Farm.

Please wear old clothing that can get both wet and dirty.

Bottled water will be provided.

This is a FREE event but you do need to signup to reserve your spot.

Juneteenth at Oxmoor – Archeology Day – June 19: 2-5pm

Oxmoor will hold a special program on Friday, June 19th from 2-5pm. Archeologist Lori Stahlgren will give a presentation in the Oxmoor library showcasing the artifacts recently unearthed inside the former slave dwellings at Oxmoor. Attendees will tour the historic house, as well as the excavation sites at the former slave dwellings and will have the opportunity to dig with the archeologist or clean artifacts. (weather permitting)

Space is limited to 20 participants.

Please wear clothing that can get dirty as well as closed toe shoes.

Recommended for ages 8+

Historic House Tour/Archeology Dig Day – July 13: 2pm

Join us for a special historic house tour followed by digging with our archeologist! Come learn the history of the historic Oxmoor Farm and then dig with our archeologist at our excavation site inside the former slave dwellings.

Cost: $18 per adult, $15 per senior, and $12 per student (ages 8-17). Not recommended for children under 8. Space is limited to 10 people.

Please wear clothing that can get dirty as well as closed toe shoes.

Bottled water will be provided.
