About these events
Oxmoor – Artifact Cleaning Night – Wednesday July 12, 2023 (5-7pm)
Come and learn what happens after archaeologists excavate! Did you know that we (archaeologists) don’t spend all that much time excavating? Only about 25% of our time is spent excavating. Much more time is spent washing artifacts and cataloging them to learn what they can tell us about the past. And a great deal of time is spent writing about what we have learned!
Join KAS archaeologists at Oxmoor to wash and learn about the artifacts we have been excavating at the extant slave dwellings on the Farm. Stay as long or as little as you like.
Please wear old clothing that can get both wet and dirty.
Bottled water and refreshments will be provided. This is a FREE event but you do need to signup to reserve your spot. Space is limited to only 12!
Oxmoor Dig Day! – 2 sessions on Saturday, August 19 (1-3pm & 3-5pm)
Come and learn the techniques of excavating and sifting for artifacts!
Have you ever wanted to dig on an archeological excavation site? Join archeologists from the Kentucky Archeological Survey on Saturday, August 19. We will hold 2 dig sessions, the first from 1-3pm and then from 3-5pm. Each session is limited to 10 people.
The dig site is inside the former dwellings of the enslaved at Oxmoor Farm. The archeology is part of an ongoing restoration project that will culminate with a future exhibit inside one of the former dwellings about the life of the enslaved people that once lived at Oxmoor Farm.
Please wear old clothing that can get both wet and dirty. Please wear appropriate footwear – No open-toed shoes!
Bottled water and refreshments will be provided. This is a FREE event but you do need to signup to reserve your spot. Space is limited to only 10!
