Oxmoor Farm Foundation Presents Evenings of Note at Oxmoor Farm

Join us for four evenings of music at historic Oxmoor Farm beginning September 21.

Next Performance: March 22 with SymbiosisDuo.

SymbiosisDuo is unique, in that it features both tuba and euphonium in equal roles and in a variety of settings.

Dr. Gail Robertson (euphonium) and Dr. Stacy Baker (tuba) formed SymbiosisDuo in 2007, and released albums Symbiosis in 2009, Playground in 2015. The duo was featured at the 2017 Leonard Falcone International Euphonium Festival, the 2019 International Tuba Euphonium Conference, and traveled to Japan for the 2024 International Women’s Brass Conference. They released their 3rd album “Dreams, Dances, and Destinations” in 2024.

The duo chose the name “SYMBIOSISDUO” from the concert duet written for them by composer Chris Sharp. “Symbiosis is defined as, ‘A relationship of mutual benefit or dependence’…The technical and range requirements for each solo instrument are comparable, suggesting a ‘separate but equal’ relationship.” This is an innovative and challenging approach to duet writing for tuba and euphonium producing “the symbiosis effect,” as the tuba is not relegated to an accompanying role, but is equal in all aspects of music with the other voice in the duo, the euphonium.”

What you will hear is a broad selection of music, very tasteful playing, fresh arrangements and compositions, and, yes, some impressive technique all with the backdrop of the beautiful library at Oxmoor Farm.

The 2024-2025 Evenings of Note concert series kicks off with an evening of opera on Saturday, September 21 with singers from the Kentucky Opera.  Mezzo-Soprano, Adrianna Hughes, tenor Jesse Donner, and baritone Chad Sloan will perform selections from the Opera’s upcoming season including music from Romeo & Juliet, Madame Butterfly, and The Secret Garden. Taylor Burkhardt will accompany the performers.

Next up on Saturday, November 16 is the Ron Jones Jazz Quartet. Then we take a break during the Holiday season and return on Saturday, March 22, 2025 for a performance with SymbiosisDuo. The season will conclude with an outdoor concert on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Pack your picnic basket and blankets and ride out to Oxmoor for a concert on the lawn with the  Brass Band of Louisville. Our September, November and March concerts will be held inside the beautiful library at Oxmoor.

Only 80 in-person tickets will be sold for indoor concerts.

In addition to great music, guests will enjoy drinks and appetizers before each indoor concert. The outdoor concert will be enjoyed on our front lawn and is a tailgating “bring your own” blanket, chairs, food and drink event.

Tickets for each indoor Evenings of Note Concerts is $50 per person and $25 per carload for the outdoor concert.
